Who am I? What do I do?

A generalist’s approach to answer truthfully

For most of my life, I was hiding parts of myself, as I thought I was too much. My generalist spirit made me explore many things and I never really knew what to say when someone asked “what do you do?”, so I just kept it simple and shared what I thought my conversation partner could relate to.

Most of my professional network knows me as a marketing/community in tech kind of person, but I am much more. We are all much more than our jobs.

I am now on a path to fully embrace myself, so I’ve created this list of everything I am, mostly for myself, as I feel scattered a lot and also to appreciate myself. I encourage you to make a similar list ;)

- I am a writer (here; and I’m also in the process of writing a children’s book)
- I am an economist (by education and because growing up I believed it was crucial to understand how markets work, so I could help people on a global scale effectively; I’m still into global politics)
- I am a psychologist (graduated from an online school, explored Process Work for years; also a group process work called Deep Democracy)
- I am a traveler (did a lot of solo travels; 30(?) countries, most of them explored, not just visited; also did van life for a while)
- I am a content creator (here, but also on TikTok; not regularly, but it’s something I do once in a while)
- I am a visual artist (I paint, draw, do graffiti templates; I am a photographer)
- I am a public speaker (had talks both on regular and online events)
- I have experience as a TV reporter (was making interviews for TVN24, the biggest polish news station)
- I am a comedian (improv, standup, clowning)
- I am an actress (didn’t play in anything major, but took some classes and performed twice)
- I started NGO focused on promoting communal living (co-living, co-housing, and eco-villages)
- I am a corporate employee (I’ve worked for Microsoft for 3,5 years; and have an experience of shadowing VP for a week, that left a lasting impact)
- I am on a spiritual journey (worked with different plant medicines, different teachers, and approaches; had a YouTube and IG about meditation and ayurveda for a while)
- I am a songwriter (I composed melodies and wrote lyrics to a few songs now; all still “in the drawer” though)
- I am a polish girl living in Mexico; a daughter; a lover; a friend; a woman; a cook; a yogi; a bike lover; an environmentalist; a less waste advocate; a pescatarian; and probably many things more that I can’t think of now

and yes, I also do marketing and community work 🤟🏼

None of these things truly define me. If anything, what defines me is the spirit of curiosity and exploration, but I’ve never seen this as a job title ;)

I love who I am, but tbh it is hard to find a place for myself in the world. I can’t be just 1 thing and be happy with it.

Even when you take content creation — you can be a travel blogger; a cook; a spiritual guru, etc. but what what if I am all of them? I don’t want to decide on being and posting 1 thing only. I don’t want to specialize. I tried, it doesn’t work for me.

So I keep doing what I do, and posting this here, to convince myself that it’s ok. Maybe if I repeat it enough, I’ll be able to fully believe it.

Also, I very much encourage you to do the same exercise in the comment, post, or maybe just in your head
1. So people could get to know you for who you really are
2. For yourself! It feels good to embrace everything you are, at least for me it felt empowering.

Take care of yourselves 💕
