Dear Apple, do we need all the software updates?

An open letter to people working on macOS and iOS

Dear people working at Apple,

I am just installing a new macOS update. It’s 13 GB and there isn’t even 1 functionality I would like to use.

I get your situation, you’re in the middle of tech wars. It must be so hard to keep up and constantly release new features.

Do you believe that if you don’t keep growing and developing new stuff, you would stay behind? That’s probably true, but we, as humans, are so used to thinking of progress as a linear thing, but it doesn’t have to be.

Revolutions aren’t linear. They are disruptive, they come from somewhere else than the expected growth path and they require taking a risk.

And I do believe that you, dear people working at Apple, have what it takes to make the changes that many of the users dream of.

Current situation is — if we keep installing all the updates (and I am very well aware, that it’s the thing to do, because of security concerns), the updates take up space, memory and processing power from our devices. That’s why they get slower, and the battery runs out faster.
